In 1968, Tapio Wirkkala designed the Ultima Thule candlestick for Iittala. The relief glass evokes the melting patterns of Arctic glaciers, refracting light into delicate, irregular structures. Its compact form exudes a serene presence, emphasizing the materiality of the piece. Soft reflections appear in the candlelight, while the surface retains its sculptural quality. It can be placed on a table or used as a subtle accent on a sideboard. The design and execution are precise; the edge is reminiscent of frozen ice.
