Vintage side tables and used side tables: Tulip, Bauhaus, teak

1 4

The side table is the piece a collection starts with: small, affordable, and a used classic looks good next to any sofa.

At 2nd home you will find vintage side tables and used side tables from second hand: the Tulip by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, the B22 by Marcel Breuer for Thonet, 1950s kidney tables, Swiss tubular steel by Embru, designs by ClassiCon and Artemide, plus Danish teak and single pieces. Every table is described with all dimensions and photos of its true condition. The larger siblings await among the coffee tables, everything together among the coffee and side tables.

What should you look for in a used side table?

At stability, because a side table carries lamp and glass and must not tip. At the top, whether marble, glass or wood, it may show patina but no cracks. And at the height, which should match the armrest of your sofa, usually 45 to 60 centimetres. Everything we know is stated with every piece.

Classic or find?

A Tulip table or a B22 is sought after by collectors and fits any interior, from period flat to new build. A 1950s kidney table or a teak piece from Denmark brings character that cannot be reproduced. Used, you get both well below list price.

Why buy used?

Because the good designs have been built unchanged for decades and a used example with patina is often more beautiful than a new one. You save, get a piece with history and keep it in use. Small tables almost always reach you as a parcel.

Buying used side tables: eras and makers

  • Choose a vintage side table by the height of your sofa or armchair: the top usually sits at about armrest height. Every table is described with condition, dimensions and photos. Larger surfaces come with coffee tables, the seat next to it with armchairs and the light on top with table lamps.
