Wishbone, J16, Heart: the best known designs

Wegner designed the Wishbone Chair in 1949: a curved backrest, a Y-shaped support and a seat of paper cord woven by hand. The J16 rocking chair of 1944 was made for FDB, the furniture brand of the Danish cooperative movement, and was meant to be affordable for many households. The Heart Chair of 1952 has only three legs and slides close to the table. The GE290 sofa by Getama combines an open wooden frame with loose cushions.

How to recognise an original

Many Wegner pieces carry a maker's stamp, a branded mark or a label, placed differently depending on maker and year. Look at the quality of the wood joints and, on the Wishbone, at the weave: paper cord can be renewed.
