What to look for in a used wardrobe: doors should close flush and not sag, hinges and locks should work cleanly. Check the back panel, shelves and hanging rail, and on veneer above all the edges. Ask about smell and storage, because wood absorbs odours. Before buying, find out whether the wardrobe can be taken apart, and measure your stairwell, doors and ceiling height. Large wardrobes often only fit into a flat in pieces.
