How do you recognise an original?

Cassina has produced the LC series under licence since 1965 and numbers every piece: embossing in the frame, signatures and, depending on the year, a certificate of authenticity. Early editions before the Cassina era are rarer and carry different marks; what we know about provenance and year is stated with every piece.

LC2 or LC3, which suits you?

The LC2 is the compact classic with a firm seat, ideal for offices, receptions and smaller rooms. The LC3 is deeper and softer, made for the living room. The LC4 chaise longue is the modernist recliner par excellence and needs surprisingly little space. Still measure beforehand: the dimensions of every piece are in the description, and with sofas the stairwell often decides.

Why buy second-hand?

Tubular steel and thick leather age with dignity: a used LC gains character instead of losing value, and costs far less than buying new. There is no more sustainable way to own a piece of architectural history, and the classics stay in demand anyway: well-kept LCs have resold reliably for decades.

    Cassina and the early editions

    Since 1965 Cassina has produced the series exclusively under licence, within its Cassina I Maestri collection. Before that, small editions were made in Switzerland, among others by Heidi Weber in Zurich and by Wohnbedarf and Embru; such early pieces are sought-after collector items and keep appearing with us.

    Steel frames, thick leather, replaceable cushions: the LC series is designed to be repairable. Keeping a used piece in service is the most consistent form of sustainability, and the depreciation of buying new practically disappears.

    How to style the classics

    Black leather and chrome get along with almost everything: with teak and mid-century, with concrete and glass, with old wooden floors anyway. Place the LC2 freely in the room, it works from every side. The LC4 only needs a quiet corner and good light.

How do I recognise an original Cassina LC?

By the embossed serial number in the steel frame, the signatures of Le Corbusier, Perriand and Jeanneret and, depending on the year, the certificate. If the number is missing, be careful; on our pieces we document what can be found on the furniture.

How do I care for leather and tubular steel?

Treat the leather with leather care twice a year and avoid direct sun, then it stays supple. The chromed steel tube only needs a soft cloth; no abrasives, they scratch the shine. Small scratches in the chrome can be polished out.

Does an LC2 fit a modern interior?

Especially there. The strict cube shape works next to modern sofas as well as in a period flat, and black leather with chrome suits almost any colour scheme. An LC2 is often the piece that lends a room its gravity.

What does a used Le Corbusier armchair cost?
