Our Concept
Our Concept

The concept behind 2nd home – a 2nd home for beloved items

Every piece of furniture, every lamp, every vase has lived somewhere before. This is precisely the idea behind 2nd home: We are the curated online marketplace for high-quality vintage and second-hand furniture and decoration – giving products with a history the 2nd home they deserve. 2nd home inspires, informs, and curates – for your unique, sustainable, and beloved home.

Sustainability as a core principle

2nd home creates a dialogue between past and future. Our concept makes it easier than ever to choose the most sustainable purchasing option available today: selling what is still good instead of throwing it away – and buying what already exists instead of having new items produced. Furnishing with used items instead of new ones is not a compromise, but a statement. Small traces of time are not a flaw with us, but character.

A community of verified sellers

Behind every piece is a person: specialized vintage dealers, commercial providers, and private enthusiasts. We are the link between them – and only allow verified sellers on our platform. This way, we avoid the uneasy feeling of anonymous platforms and create a community where you can buy and sell with confidence. Together, we embark on a journey through stories, styles, and eras – breathing new life into beloved products.

Worry-free shopping

Part of the concept is also that second-hand shopping feels as safe as buying new goods: honest condition descriptions with real photos instead of catalog images, our buyer protection, 14-day return policy for commercial sellers, secure payment, and reliable shipping – from insured parcels to freight delivery.

The people behind it

2nd home was founded in 2023 by Cloudy Zakrocki and Michael Munder – with the mission to provide design lovers with easy access to sustainable, unique vintage furniture. Cloudy Zakrocki is a former editor-in-chief of world-renowned magazines and an expert in brand building; Michael Munder is an e-commerce expert who helped make furnishing retailers like Porta and Depot big. Both know: it is the community that makes us stronger.

You are wonderfully unique – so why should you conform? Discover our latest pieces or give your own beloved items a 2nd home.

Careful curation

The 2nd home Curation – why only selected pieces end up with us

There are many second-hand platforms. Most function like digital flea markets: unstructured, unsorted, and full of random finds. 2nd home deliberately takes a different approach – every single piece you find with us has undergone a multi-stage curation process. Only items that meet our standards for design, quality, and condition make it into the shop.

Experience you can see

Behind the curation is a team with many years of experience in all areas of Home & Living – from furniture and lighting to carpets and home accessories. We track down new assortments and dealers and ensure quality. Added to this is our community of professional sellers and private enthusiasts, whose knowledge helps us achieve the highest standards.

How the curation works

Vetted Sellers: Before a product can even be submitted, we vet the people behind it. Only verified sellers are allowed to offer products on 2nd home – commercial dealers, among other things, based on trade registration, assortment quality, and references.

Pre-filtering: Every submitted piece is carefully pre-filtered. In the flood of fast-moving mass-produced goods, we distinguish ourselves through consistent quality assurance – what does not fit our assortment is not listed.

Authenticity check: For design classics from brands like Cassina, Vitra, or Thonet, we authenticate brands and designers based on manufacturer and origin information. We state the origin and manufacturer directly in the product description.

Honest representation: Condition, dimensions, and signs of wear are transparently stated in every description. All photos show the actual piece – no catalog images. Vintage means lived history, and that's exactly how we describe it.

Quickly online: If a product passes curation and all information is correct, it is listed within 72 hours at the latest – and immediately available, without long waiting times.

Active search instead of chance

We don't just wait for submissions: Our team actively searches for trends, stories, and sought-after pieces – from rarities to trendy retro finds. With every new item, we gather information so you can make an informed choice and constantly discover new things to your taste.

What's in it for you

The curation is our promise: no long searches on outdated platforms, no risk with unknown providers – but an exclusive selection with trust. Rounded off by our buyer protection, comprehensive service, and secure shipping. This makes second-hand buying as reliable as buying new goods – only more sustainable and with more character.

Discover the latest curated pieces – or submit your own favorite piece and let it become part of the curation.

Olivier Mourgue

Our Dealers – Vetted Sources for Genuine Vintage Treasures

Every piece on 2nd home has a story – and behind every piece is a person we know and have vetted. Unlike anonymous classifieds platforms, we work exclusively with verified sellers: specialized vintage dealers, commercial providers, and selected private sellers who share our passion for good design.

Where Our Products Come From

Our assortment comes from three sources: Specialized vintage dealers who have focused on design classics and high-quality second-hand furniture for years – from Cassina to Vitra and Thonet to USM Haller. Commercial providers, whom we carefully vet before they are admitted to our platform. And private sellers who want to give their well-preserved furniture, lamps, rugs, and home accessories a 2nd home.

For design classics, we state the manufacturer and origin directly in the product description – so you always know where your piece comes from. Since the objects come from different sellers, they are shipped directly from their locations: smaller items as insured parcels, furniture by freight forwarding.

How We Select Our Dealers

Your safety is our top priority. That's why only vetted sellers are allowed to offer products on 2nd home. We vet commercial dealers before admission based on, among other things, trade license, assortment quality, and references. This way, we avoid the uneasy feeling many people experience with anonymous platforms – and create a community you can trust.

Our team has many years of experience in all areas of Home & Living and actively searches for new dealers, assortments, and trends. Not everyone who wants to sell is admitted – quality always takes precedence over quantity for us.

How We Vet Each Item

In addition to dealer vetting, every single piece goes through our multi-stage curation process before going online:

Pre-filtering: Only items that meet our standards for design, quality, and condition make it into the shop. This is how we deliberately differentiate ourselves from platforms with unstructured and inferior mass-produced goods.

Authenticity Check: We verify the originality of design classics as part of the curation process based on manufacturer and origin information. Brands and designers are authenticated.

Honest Description: Condition, dimensions, and signs of wear are transparently stated in every product description. All photos show the actual piece – no catalog images. Vintage means lived history, and that's exactly how we describe it.

Buy with Confidence

So you can fully concentrate on the joy of furnishing, we secure every purchase: with our buyer protection, 14-day return policy for items from commercial sellers, and secure payment via the encrypted Shopify checkout. You can find out more about our selection process on the The 2nd home Curation page.

What does shipping cost?

We ship smaller items as an insured package from 4.90 Euros within Germany. Furniture is delivered by a forwarding agent; the costs depend on the size and destination country and will be displayed in the checkout before payment. This way, you see the total price before ordering. And if something doesn't fit: You have a 14-day right of return for items from our commercial sellers.

How long does delivery take?

Parcel shipments leave our network within 2 to 6 days. We will arrange freight deliveries for furniture with you by phone, typically 2 to 4 weeks, depending on distance and country. You will receive a shipping confirmation as soon as your item is on its way.

Where do the products come from and who sells them?

Behind every piece is a seller vetted by us: In addition to private sellers, these include specialized vintage dealers and commercial providers, whom we verify before they are admitted to 2nd home, for example, based on their trade license, assortment quality, and references. In addition, 2nd home curates each individual piece before it goes online: Only items that meet our standards for design, quality, and condition are included in the shop. For design classics, we state the manufacturer and origin directly in the description.

What condition is my piece in, and is it an original?

The condition, dimensions, and signs of wear are honestly stated in the description, and all photos show the actual piece, not catalog images.
