The people behind it

2nd home was founded in 2023 by Cloudy Zakrocki and Michael Munder – with the mission to provide design lovers with easy access to sustainable, unique vintage furniture. Cloudy Zakrocki is a former editor-in-chief of world-renowned magazines and an expert in brand building; Michael Munder is an e-commerce expert who helped make furnishing retailers like Porta and Depot big. Both know: it is the community that makes us stronger.

There are many second-hand platforms. Most function like digital flea markets: unstructured, unsorted, and full of random finds. 2nd home deliberately takes a different approach – every single piece you find with us has undergone a multi-stage curation process. Only items that meet our standards for design, quality, and condition make it into the shop.

How the curation works

Vetted Sellers: Before a product can even be submitted, we vet the people behind it. Only verified sellers are allowed to offer products on 2nd home – commercial dealers, among other things, based on trade registration, assortment quality, and references.

Pre-filtering: Every submitted piece is carefully pre-filtered. In the flood of fast-moving mass-produced goods, we distinguish ourselves through consistent quality assurance – what does not fit our assortment is not listed.

Authenticity check: For design classics from brands like Cassina, Vitra, or Thonet, we authenticate brands and designers based on manufacturer and origin information. We state the origin and manufacturer directly in the product description.

Honest representation: Condition, dimensions, and signs of wear are transparently stated in every description. All photos show the actual piece – no catalog images. Vintage means lived history, and that's exactly how we describe it.

Quickly online: If a product passes curation and all information is correct, it is listed within 72 hours at the latest – and immediately available, without long waiting times.
