The 602/D bookcase by Franz Ehrlich for Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau shows how clear and precise post-war design can be. Made of ash, it combines open display space with closed storage. Above, a glazed display cabinet with a shelf, below, a cupboard with hinged doors and a lock. The proportions appear calm, the grain light and lively. Refurbished and carefully oiled, the character of the original is preserved. A versatile piece of furniture for living room or study, with a tangible connection to Bauhaus and GDR design history.
