Arne Norell was a Swedish furniture designer born in 1917 who founded his first workshop in Stockholm in 1954. He later moved it to Småland and founded the company Norell Möbel AB, which is now one of Sweden's leading seating furniture manufacturers. Norell was known for his versatile designs in which he combined different materials such as wood, leather and metal. His most famous pieces include the Ari armchair (1966), which was awarded "Showpiece of the Year" in 1973, and the Safari Sirocco chair (1964). After his death in 1971, his daughter took over the company, which continues to produce his classics to this day.
