Wilkhahn Vintage Furniture and Design

German manufacturer of office and conference furniture, founded in 1907 in Bad Münder am Deister by Christian Wilkening and Friedrich Hahne as "Wilkening und Hahne". Early production comprised classic chairs; from the 1950s the company oriented itself consistently towards contemporary designers and good function.

The long-standing cooperation with Roland Rainer shaped the profile from the late 50s (Stadthallenstuhl 1958). In 1980, with the design office of Klaus Franck and Werner Sauer, came the FS line, the first office chair with a synchronous mechanism, which became the benchmark in the market. Further central pieces are the Stitz standing-aid stool (1991), the ON chair with Trimension mechanism (2009) and meeting chairs of the Modus series. Wilkhahn works consistently with durable materials and repairable constructions.

On the vintage market, early FS line chairs from the 80s, Rainer Stadthalle chairs and conference tables from the 60s and 70s are sought after. When you examine a piece, look for the stamped Wilkhahn logo on the base frame, component numbers and original upholstery. The material quality of older editions is a collector's argument.
