Victorian papier-mâché pen box, stated to be from around 1860. Deep black lacquer, finely hand-painted: delicate floral tendrils, a bird, gold-colored lining around the edge. The lid opens easily, the interior is plain black. On a desk, it organizes pens and small stationery items; in a display cabinet, it showcases 19th-century lacquer art. The surface appears very clean in the photos, the painting clear and not rubbed off. Manufacturer unknown, typical Early Victorian. A quiet, decorative object with history.
