The KT 221 sofa by Kurt Thut showcases the precision of Swiss steel construction in a living space. A chrome-plated flat steel frame supports black leather cushions with taut leather straps – light in expression, clear in structure. In the 1950s, Thut opted for bolted profiles instead of organic shells. The connection to architecture is palpable, with Mies van der Rohe as an early reference. The sofa appears open, constructive, and understated. A design that gracefully bears its age and signs of use. In a room, it reads as a calm line, with a comfortable seat depth and precise edge. A durable piece of furniture without pathos.
