A sideboard designed by Eiri Iwakura for Takayama Wood Works at Kashiwa. The fronts feature an Ichimatsu checkerboard pattern, precisely joined; the interplay of light and grain adds depth. Solid walnut brings warmth and tranquility. The clean geometry subtly evokes Japanese tradition, interpreted in a modern way. Sliding side doors structure the storage space; the design is also suitable for displaying items. Craftsmanship from Hida-Takayama is evident in the edges, proportions, and movement of the doors. A piece of furniture for living spaces, understated in expression, yet generous in its use. Patina and signs of use are present but do not detract from its quality.
