Stilnovo Vintage Furniture and Design

Italian lighting manufacturer, founded in 1946 in Milan by Bruno Gatta. One of the defining brands of Italian lighting design from the 1950s to the 1970s. Stilnovo closed in 1989, was revived in 2018 by the Linea Light Group, and has since been producing selected classics as re-editions.

Characteristic of Stilnovo's production are chrome-plated and brass-colored floor lamps, table lamps, and pendant lights with clear geometric shapes, often with adjustable shades or swivel mechanisms. Designers included Joe Colombo, Gae Aulenti, Gaetano Sciolari (numerous pendant lights from the 60s and 70s, widely distributed worldwide), Ettore Sottsass, Bruno Munari (Falkland 1964, a pendant light made of elastic jersey tubing suspended in the wind), and Danilo and Corrado Aroldi (Periscopio 1968). Stilnovo pieces are now a central part of the Italian Mid-Century collector's scene.

In the vintage market, original pieces from the 50s to the 70s are particularly sought after, especially Munari's Falkland, Aroldi's Periscopio, and Sciolari's pendant lights. When inspecting a piece, look for the embossed or cast Stilnovo logo (often on the switch or base), model number, and date stamp. Re-editions from 2018 have different markings and should be evaluated separately by collectors.
