Schönbuch was founded in 1953 by Hans Mayer-Brühl in southern Germany and is one of the defining German manufactories for wardrobe, entrance and organisation furniture. Schönbuch positions itself at the intersection of functional entrance area furnishing and contemporary furniture design and is still family-owned today.

Characteristic are Schönbuch's reduced wardrobe systems, wall panels, mirror editions and benches for the entrance area, often combined with elaborately worked woods, powder-coated steel and coloured upholstered elements. Central designer collaborations are with Mark Braun, Sebastian Herkner, Apartment 8, Sylvain Willenz and Studio Vertijet. Well-known pieces include the Wing wall-mounted coat rack (Sebastian Herkner), the Place benches, the Pebble stools and numerous mirror editions. Materials are solid European woods (oak, ash), powder-coated steel and aluminium and high-quality fabric or leather covers in a characteristically muted colour palette.

On the vintage market, early Schönbuch editions from the 1990s and 2000s are especially sought after, above all pieces in discontinued colour or material variants and early Mark Braun and Sebastian Herkner editions. When you examine a piece, look for the punched or embossed Schönbuch logo on the back or the base, intact powder coating and wood surfaces and the workshop label with model designation and dating.
