Moroso Vintage Furniture and Design

Italian upholstered furniture manufactory, founded in 1952 in Cavalicco (Udine) by Agostino Moroso. A family business, today led by Roberto Moroso (CEO) and Patrizia Moroso (art director), who has shaped the brand's design profile since the 1980s. Moroso stands for expressive upholstered furniture with strong colours, international designer voices and an experimental approach to upholstery fabrics.

The international breakthrough came with Ron Arad (Big Easy Volume 2, 1988; Victoria and Albert, 2000) and intensified with Patricia Urquiola, who designed central pieces for the brand with Fjord (2002), Antibodi (2006), Tropicalia and Bohemian. Further important designers are Tord Boontje (Witch Chair, Blossom), Ross Lovegrove, Toshiyuki Kita (Tomato chair), Marcel Wanders, Front, Konstantin Grcic and Diesel Living. Characteristic is the combination of sculptural form with artisanal upholstery and covering techniques (quilted, woven or braided covers).

On the vintage market, early Ron Arad editions from the late 80s and 90s are especially sought after (Big Easy, Spring Collection), as are first Urquiola pieces (Fjord 2002, Antibodi 2006). When you examine a piece, look for the sewn-in Moroso label, often with the designer signature and edition details. With the Arad pieces, original coloured polyester seats are an important dating and value mark.
