Montana Vintage Furniture and Design

Montana was founded in 1982 by Peter J. Lassen in Haarby on the Danish island of Funen and is today one of the defining European brands for modular storage and living systems. Lassen developed the Montana system as a universal modular shelving and cabinet programme that can be configured in countless combinations: wall-mounted, free-standing, floor-based or as a sideboard.

The Montana system consists of powder-coated MDF modules in a characteristically broad colour palette (today more than 40 colours) that can be individually configured into libraries, wardrobes, TV furniture or dining room buffets. Montana also produces the Selection sofa programme, the Carry side table system and, since the 2010s, chairs and lighting editions with contemporary designers such as Tora Urup, Carl Hansen and Jakob Wagner. Materials are powder-coated MDF, brushed steel and aluminium, combined with oak and walnut veneer options for the premium lines.

On the vintage market, early Montana modules from the 1980s and 90s are especially sought after, above all in discontinued colour variants and original untouched configuration. When you examine a piece, look for the embossed Montana logo on the back of the module (with model number and production date), intact powder coating without chipping or scratches and the characteristic Montana-specific fittings and connecting elements.
