Mazzega Vintage Furniture and Design

Vetreria Mazzega is a glass manufactory founded on Murano in 1946 by Romano Mazzega, specialising above all in lighting and ranking among the defining Murano lighting manufactories of the 1960s and 70s. Unlike the classic vase and bowl manufactories of Murano, Mazzega turned early to collaborations with designers from the Milanese design scene and also produced as a supplier for Italian furniture and lighting brands.

Mazzega's central designer collaborations include Carlo Nason (pendant and table lamps in thick-walled Murano glass, 1960s and 70s), Marco Zotta, Renato Toso and, more recently, designers from the contemporary Italian lighting scene. Characteristic are the multi-part pendant lamps and chandeliers in moulded or layered Murano glass (often with fused-in bands, sommerso technique or bullicante bubbles) on brass-plated or chromed metal frames.

On the vintage market, Mazzega lighting from the 1960s and 70s is especially sought after, above all Carlo Nason pendant and table lamps and multi-arm chandeliers. When you examine a piece, look for the workshop label on the glass or the metal frame (paper sticker "Vetreria Mazzega Murano" with swan logo), the original wiring with period-typical fabric or rubber cable and intact glass elements without cracks or regrinding at the rim.
