Lehni Vintage Furniture and Design

Lehni was founded in the 1960s in Dübendorf (Canton of Zurich) by the Swiss master joiner Walter Lehni and developed into the defining Swiss manufactory for minimalist aluminium furniture. The company is still family-owned and produces exclusively at its Swiss site in small edition sizes.

Its central and still iconic product is the shelving system by Andreas Christen (1968), designed for Lehni: a modular aluminium shelf made of right-angled, folded and powder-coated aluminium panels with characteristically visible screw connections. The system has been produced for over fifty years in unchanged construction and in more than twenty powder-coating colours and is considered a defining piece of the Swiss minimalist furniture language. Lehni also produces sideboards, chests of drawers, side tables, tables and stools, mostly to designs by Andreas Christen and, more recently, contemporary Swiss designers. Materials are exclusively powder-coated, folded aluminium panels in the characteristic Lehni colour palette (natural white, black, grey tones, muted pastels).

On the vintage market, early Lehni shelves from the late 1960s and 70s are especially sought after, above all in discontinued original colour or configuration variants. When you examine a piece, look for the punched Lehni logo on the module or at the screw connection, intact powder coating without chipping and the characteristic visible screw connections without later repairs or welding.
