Foscarini Vintage Furniture and Design

Italian lighting manufacturer, founded in 1981 on Murano (Venice). Unlike classic Murano manufactories, Foscarini has deliberately worked beyond Murano glass since the 90s with materials such as polycarbonate, aluminium, concrete, carbon fibre and composites. Today based in Marcon (Venice).

Under artistic director Carlo Urbinati, Foscarini became a platform for international designer voices. Central pieces are Rodolfo Dordoni's Lumière (1990), Patricia Urquiola's Caboche (2005), Marc Sadler's Twiggy (2006, with its characteristically tilted shade made of woven composite) and Mite (2000), Ferruccio Laviani's Orbital (1992), Aldo Cibic's works, Tord Boontje's Big O and Diesel Living collaborations. Classics in Murano glass such as Dordoni's Plass and Mangiarotti's vase lamps also belong to the range. Foscarini is known internationally today for combining artisanal material processing with contemporary forms.

On the vintage market, early 90s editions are especially sought after, above all Lumière and Orbital from the first production phase. When you examine a piece, look for the embossed or sewn-in Foscarini label, the model number and the designer signature. With Twiggy, the original material finish of the composite shade (without cracks or deformation) is decisive, with Lumière the intact mouth-blown glass shade.
