Flexform Vintage Furniture and Design

Flexform was founded in 1959 by the Galimberti family in Meda (Brianza) and today ranks among the defining Italian luxury upholstered furniture brands. The company is still family-owned and produces exclusively in its own factories in the Brianza region.

Since 1979, Antonio Citterio has been responsible for the Flexform line as long-standing artistic director and principal designer, shaping the brand with a reduced, material-conscious language of seating. Central Citterio classics are the Groundpiece sofa (1999, a modular low upholstered landscape), the Lifesteel sofa, the Mood sofa and the Citterio lounge chair, along with numerous side tables and desks. Carlo Colombo, Roberto Lazzeroni and others also design for Flexform. Materials include solid steel and brushed aluminium bases, down and polyurethane upholstery and premium wool boucle, leather and linen covers.

On the vintage market, Citterio's Groundpiece sofas and early Flexform editions from the late 1990s and 2000s are especially sought after. When you examine a piece, look for the sewn-in Flexform label on the underlining (with model designation and production date), intact original covers or high-quality reupholstery in matching materials and intact steel bases without corrosion or weaknesses.
