Christian Dior was founded in Paris in 1947 by the French couturier Christian Dior (1905-1957) as an haute couture fashion house and revolutionised international post-war fashion with the "New Look" collection of spring 1947. Maison Dior is known above all as a fashion and lifestyle house; in the interior and home accessories field, the Maison produces limited and curated editions.

In the home and tableware field, the Dior editions comprise porcelain and tableware editions (often in collaboration with French manufactories such as Bernardaud), home accessories (candles, bowls, room fragrances), limited furniture editions (designer chairs, side tables) for pop-up Salone del Mobile presentations and hotel editions. Characteristic are the Toile de Jouy and Cannage patterns, which recur throughout as Dior signature motifs. Maison Dior belongs to the LVMH group.

On the vintage market, original Maison Dior home and tableware editions are available only in very limited numbers and are traded accordingly high by collectors. When you examine a piece, look for the stamped or sewn-in Maison Dior logo (often with edition number and production date), the characteristic precise workmanship and authentic provenance documentation. With tableware, also look for the manufactory mark (e.g. Bernardaud) as an indication of the co-producer.
