Baltensweiler Vintage Furniture and Design

Baltensweiler was founded in 1955 in Ebikon (Canton of Lucerne) by Rosmarie and Rico Baltensweiler and ranks among the defining Swiss lighting manufactories of the post-war era. The company is still family-owned today and keeps its entire production at its Swiss site.

The best-known Baltensweiler classic, and the one that made its name, is the Type 600 (also called Halo 250) floor, table and clamp lamp: an adjustable reflector spotlight designed by Rico Baltensweiler in 1951, with its characteristic slightly hemispherical perforated aluminium reflector and a delicate articulated arm. After the official founding of the company in 1955, the Type 600 went into industrial series production and remains in the range in modified form to this day. Other central Baltensweiler classics are the Type 410 floor and table lamp, the Halo desk lamp and the Sigma pendant lamp. Materials include perforated and lacquered aluminium reflectors, precision-made articulated constructions in brass and steel and, more recently, LED components in the original housings.

On the vintage market, original Baltensweiler Type 600 editions from the 1950s to the 70s are especially sought after, above all in original colours and with intact joint mechanisms. When you examine a piece, look for the stamped or punched Baltensweiler logo on the reflector or base assembly, an intact reflector without dents or paint damage and a smoothly working original joint construction without replacement parts.
