Röthlisberger Kollektion is a Swiss furniture manufacturer based in Gümligen (canton of Bern) that has produced in a hand-crafted joinery tradition since the early 20th century. The collection is known for its consistent engagement of Swiss designers such as Alfred Hablützel, Susi and Ueli Berger, as well as contemporary studio collaborations.
Characteristic of the Röthlisberger Kollektion are its pared-back solid-wood pieces in a precise Swiss joinery tradition: sideboards, desks, bookshelves, dining tables and side tables in solid Swiss oak, ash, walnut and beech. Well-known classics include side-table, desk and chest editions by Susi and Ueli Berger, living-room furniture editions by Alfred Hablützel, as well as sculptural sideboards and living-room solitaires from the contemporary collection. Materials are solid Swiss woods (oak, walnut, ash, beech), precisely executed joinery constructions with mortise-and-tenon joints and soap- or oil-treated surfaces without aggressive lacquering.
On the vintage market, original Röthlisberger editions from the 1960s to 80s are especially sought after, above all Berger editions with their original Swiss joinery patina. When you examine a piece, look for the branded Röthlisberger mark on the underside of the case (often with model name and date), the characteristic precisely tenoned joinery and intact original oiled or soap-treated surfaces.
