Anonima Castelli (often simply "Castelli") is an Italian furniture manufactory founded in Bologna in 1877, whose long history makes it one of the oldest continuously operating furniture makers in Italy. Originally the joinery workshop of Eugenio Castelli, Anonima Castelli developed over the 20th century into a defining brand for office furniture and seating in Italian design.

The best-known Castelli classics are Giancarlo Piretti's designs from the late 1960s and 70s: the Plia folding chair (1969) with its characteristic aluminium frame construction and transparent or coloured plexiglass seat shell, the Plana folding table system (1971), the DSC chair series (1965, stackable conference chairs) and the Vertebra office chair series (Piretti with Emilio Ambasz, 1976, the first ergonomically responsive office chair). The Plia chair won the Compasso d'Oro (1971) and is represented in the collections of MoMA and other design museums. Anonima Castelli has been restructured several times and continues to produce office furniture and selected classics today.

On the vintage market, original Plia folding chairs from the early 70s are especially sought after, above all in the characteristic colours smoke grey, transparent, black and amber. When you examine a piece, look for the embossed Castelli or Anonima Castelli logo on the aluminium frame, an intact folding mechanism with the original pressing and an intact plexiglass seat shell without cracks or UV yellowing.
