Jean Prouvé was known for his functional, industrial designs, which were often made from steel and other industrial materials. He was one of the pioneers in the use of industrial manufacturing methods in the furniture and architecture industries, and his work influenced many subsequent designers. The Standard chair, designed in 1934, was produced in several variants and remains one of his most successful designs to this day. The Standard SP (Siège en Plastique), which Vitra launched in 1950, was a modern counterpart to the classic Standard chair. In this variant, the seat and backrest are made of robust plastic, and the frame is made of powder-coated sheet steel and round tubing. This is an elegant combination of a dark gray seat and backrest and a frame in the color Métal Brut. Vitra no longer produces this color. The chair on offer is new.
