When Hans and Florence Knoll gave the artist Harry Bertoia a studio in an old Knoll factory, they did not insist that Bertoia design furniture for them. However, they asked him to show them his designs if he came up with something interesting. He definitely did with the Bertoia collection, introduced in 1952. A few years later, he designed the Bertoia Plastic Side Chair, which has a comfortable plastic seat shell instead of a wire seat. This is a model with a black seat shell and black base. The chair is in very good condition with slight signs of wear.
