The clear, timeless and yet slightly playful lines of this chair, designed in 1958, are typical of George Nelson's design: the trained architect and Yale graduate created a wide range of everyday objects in the first two post-war decades with the idea of bringing modern design into America's homes and offices. As design director of Herman Miller, a position he held until 1972, and head of his own design office "George Nelson Associates Inc.", he also succeeded in doing this beyond the country's borders. He is considered a pioneer of design in the United States. In addition to his own contribution, he was also the driving force that brought well-known designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi and Alexander Girard to Herman Miller. The light-colored fiberglass rocking chair, which is mounted on an original Eames Rocking Base, is in good condition with slight signs of wear. Two pieces in stock, price is per piece.
